Matthew 2:1-12
Happy New Year! But more importantly, HAPPY EPIPHANY!
What a joyous day and what a joyous Gospel. I've been thinking a lot about being an intentional disciple of Christ, and one big part of doing that is to be active.
There are two big ways to approach the unknown: fear and excitement.
King Herod shows fear when he hears about Jesus, "he was greatly troubled." It's good that he recognizes Jesus's great presence, but Herod is threatened by this and becomes scared of the unknown. He didn't know if Jesus was going to actually be a King. He didn't know what kind of influence Jesus was going to bring. But Herod still gave Jesus no chance and was not open to accept Him and offer himself up.
However, the Magi actively seek Jesus even though they simply heard a rumor about a newborn king. And on their journey, "they were overjoyed at seeing the star," immediately being filled with God. The Magi show immense trust and faith. Jesus was just a small newborn baby, yet they still understand that He is truly special.
Who are you in this situation? The Catholic faith has so much to offer and it has many things to learn. It can be difficult to understand everything, but don't let this hold you back from asking questions and learning as much as you can. Take inspiration from the Magi and actively seek God and all of His beauty.
